A lot of fear mongering……..little substance..Typical GOP

It looks like the Republicans are up to their same old tricks, as Election Day nears.   There was one ad that particularly caught my attention, and it was the attack ad aimed at Congressman Nick Rahall(D-WV).  Below is the ad in its entirety:

The West Virginia Conservative Foundation was responsible for this ad. Wouldn’t you know though, that the WVCF was actually founded by the current West Virginia Republican Party chairmen Mike Stuart.

Its truly sad when Republicans continue to use racial politics to achieve their ends.  We have seen this tactic used a countless number of times, from former NC Senator Jessie Helm’s ads, to the spots put up to smear Tennesssee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. in his quest for the Senate seat a few years ago.

When you analyze the clip, please pay attention to how little in substance the announcer provides.  They focus on the fact that Rahall was the chair of Arab Americans for Obama.  I didn’t know that working with Arab Americans was something to be reviled, or off limits. Oh, I forgot……linking someone to Arab Americans plays on the racial stereotypes and anger that many in our country have these days.  It’s pathetic and shameful that Republicans would stoop to this level. I can’t say I’m surprised, though.

  1. I figured when I say your profile picture you where going to cry racism.

If you think beyond race you would notice that the add is linking the candidate to supporting Barrack Obama. The fact he chaired any committee to support Barrack Obama shows where his alliance is.

Playing the race card here is a stretch and you should be ashamed of yourself for belittling the civil rights movement for political gain.

    • You Republicans make me laugh harder everyday. If the people who created the ad wanted to simply link Rahall to Obama, then they would have ONLY referenced his votes in Congress that have supported that Obama agenda, etc. What does his work on behalf of Arab Americans have to do with the citizens of West Virginia, or why would that fact have any relevance in a debate on why one would vote for Rahall??? As is usual with you Republicans, many of your attacks have very little actual substance to them. You’d rather load an ad with fear mongering than facts or argue why a voter should support you all on the ISSUES. I’m also quite sure that you see no racial component at all in the other ads that I referenced(Harold Ford, Jessie Helms).

Lets get something straight…I am not one to sling around the race card lightly. But I am also not afraid to call you Republicans out on the subtle racism some of you all subscribe to when its warranted. It doesn’t surprise me that you like to deny that racism exists at all. With your allegiance to a party that is over 90% white…..its very easy to see why you would have a completely opposite view on this issue than I.

      • Actually BOTH parties are guilty of fear mongering, I despise the current Democrats more because they use racism as a cover all shield to deflect any criticism from this president.

By the way, I am not a registered Republican and have voted for Democrats for president in the past. Sorry to burst your stereotype.

      • I will start with what I actually agree with you on. I will admit that there are Democrats that too loosely throw around claims of racism, and use it when its not warranted. I disagree though, that accusations of racism are significantly used to deflect criticism of the president. Americans have the right to oppose President Obama’s policies all they want. Differences of opinion and the freedom to express them is what makes this country great. But to make it seem that absolutely NO Republicans/tea party members oppose Obama because of his race….in my opinion is naive and shows a refusal to face the reality.

        – Racist emails depicting an “Obama Innaguaration” -african tribesman dancing in a village(http://wnymedia.net/paladino/) sent by Republican gubernatiorial candidate Carl Paladino
        – Republican SC State Senator Jake Knotts calling Obama a “raghead”(http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20006815-503544.html)
        – Glenn Beck’s unfounded and ignorant statement that President Obama has a “deep seeded hatred of White people/white america”)

Honestly, I could go on for days, but I think you get the picture. I’m sure you will make excuses and find a way to justify or deny that there is any racial intent in any individuals who oppose Obama. Thats fine , though. We can just agree to disagree on that. And I’m so thrilled and overjoyed that you have voted for Democrats in the past. Since you have no love for Obama, I’m sure you are licking your chops in excitement with all the GREAT GOP candidates you will have to choose from. Hailey Barbour, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin. WOW….what a powerhouse lineup you have there.
